BATON ROUGE - The Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavaliers defeated Baton Rouge Community College Bears 12-7 on Monday after taking the lead late in the game. The Lady Cavaliers were down 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning when Abi Cole homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as BPCC collected 16 hits and BRCC had eight in the high-scoring affair. Haily Ebey, Hailey Pence, Rebecca Shepherd, Rachel Yocum, Ally Klein, Cole, and Emily Hardy each collected multiple hits for the Lady Cavs. Ebey led BPCC with three hits in five at bats.
BRCC won the first game of the doubleheader 5-4 in nine innings. The Bears rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth to capture the walk-off win, just their fifth of the season.
With the doubleheader split, BPCC is now 40-16 on the season. The 40 wins marks the third consecutive season in which the Lady Cavaliers have won 40 or more games under coach Amanda Nordberg-Hamilton, which is a first in program history. BPCC won 40 games twice in 2003 and 2005 under previous coach Ashley Grisham.
