Cavs Split Doubleheader with Panola

Cavs Split Doubleheader with Panola

CARTHAGE, TX – The Bossier Parish Community College baseball team split a Region 14 doubleheader with Panola College on Wednesday, winning the opener 9-5 before falling 10-2 in the nightcap.

In game one, a seven-run explosion in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Cavs pulled away for the victory. Collin Harris delivered the biggest blow of the day — a grand slam in that fifth inning that capped the rally. It was Harris’ third home run of the season and his second grand slam of the year.

On the mound, Trent Lape made a highly anticipated return to the rotation. The 10th-rated prospect in all of NJCAA baseball had been sidelined with elbow soreness and in his second start of the year, worked three innings while striking out three. Zeke Wall followed with 2.2 innings of relief, allowing just one run, before Chase Randall closed it out for his sixth save of the season.

Panola’s pitching and a 13-hit attack kept the Cavs in check during the second game. The bright spot for BPCC was the return of Gianluca Montanaro. The all-conference catcher on 2025 conference champion team — who signed with Belmont University (D1) — had missed most of the season with a quad injury. Montanaro went 3-for-3 in providing a huge boost both behind the plate and in the middle of the lineup.

Riley Kwak launched his sixth home run of the season, and James Reina continued to get on base with a 3-for-3 day that included a stolen base.

The Cavaliers will play a Region 14 series this weekend, traveling to Tyler Junior College for a Sunday doubleheader with first pitch set for 1pm.
